Turmeric Milk

Serves 1

Turmeric is an old Indian spice which has anti-inflammatory properties and inhibits over 50 inflammatory pathways in our body. By adding the extra ingredients the super healing effect is even more powerful.

By adding the black pepper and the coconut oil actually increases the absorption of the turmeric by approximately 4000%!!!

This is a very comforting drink, ideal if you are feeling under the weather and need an immune boost.

Kate’s top tips

Make sure you wear gloves when peeling fresh turmeric to avoid your hands being stained yellow for days.

You can add 1 tsp of raw honey to help sweeten it but opt for raw honey as pasteurisation kills off essential bacteria within the honey that feeds our good bacteria.

What you need

1 cup last based milk ( almond, coconut or Oat milk)

½ inch fresh turmeric, peeled and grated OR 1 tsp dried turmeric

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp coconut oil

Pinch black pepper

1 tsp raw honey (optional)

What you do

Place all the ingredients in a saucepan.

Stir well and leave to simmer for 5 minutes. Do not allow to boil.

Turn off the heat and leave to infuse for a further 5 minutes.

Strain the milk into a cup, discarding the fresh turmeric if you opted for that.

Serve immediately.

Oh and another thing...

If you are lucky enough to own a milk frother top the milk with frothed up milk and a pinch cinnamon.
