Cook and Clean with Kate

Me and my best mate Paul!

26th July 2016

Hi guys,

I thought I’d fill you in about what I’ve been up to as from the feedback I get, it seems you lovely people enjoy reading about my shannanigans.

I hope you are enjoying the heat wave in England.  I’ve now started to acclimatise to the heat and I’m not finding it quite as exhausting as I was. I’m still trying to cross off must visit restaurants on the island as there are so many good ones and we  are totally spoilt for choice. There’s been a lot of friends from England holidaying in Ibiza so I’ve caught up with people where I can (more about that next time.)

So, I feel the need to tell you all about my slight obsession with Paul Noble. ‘Who’s that?’ I hear you ask. Well, he is my Spanish teacher – via audio! I seriously can’t believe how good his CDs are! When I came to the end of the last CD, I actually cried when I listened the spiel about ‘thank you for listening’. I mean, seriously, that’s not normal is it? My kids were really laughing at me as I tried to explain that I had become very emotionally attached to good old Paul over the last few months and felt sad to be saying goodbye. He has taught us everything we know!

Not only has Paul been helping me, but so have my ten thousand post it notes scattered around the walls of my house.

Post it notes everywhere to help me learn Spanish!

With the children on their school summer holidays we’ve been doing lots of beach days. The best beaches are quite a drive towards the west of the island but well worth the visit. My husband is with us in Ibiza for the whole of August so we are going to experiment and find some beaches in the North of the island. Beach days are lovely, but when I return to a kitchen full of Martha’s little accidents, I could argue it’s not worth it at all! Martha is full on (as puppies are) and as well as the little accidents, has chewed a table along with my husband’s trainers and my daughter Immy’s cuddly toys! You know that love-hate relationship you have with puppies? I am experiencing that on a very high level!

Cheeky Martha! Full on!

There was a school mum’s night out, so we headed to a club called Cova Santa to watch Rudamental and I had the best night! You may find it amusing that I ended up a little worse for wear!! I don’t usually drink much so when I do, I get tipsy very quickly. So as I woke up the next day with my head in tatters, so was my reputation as the ‘clean eating guru’!! Actually, I think it’s good for people to see that although I advocate a clean and healthy lifestyle which adheres to the 80/20 rule, I do have a fun side and am a ‘normal’ girl.

Mum’s Night Out!

I had completely forgotten how nasty hangovers can be and spent the first part of the next day feeding my toxic body with high-carb foods and lots of mint tea! When I eventually made it downstairs with my head banging, the evidence of my late night binge on returning home was right there! A huge packet of crisps, mostly gone and five pancakes which were only half cooked!

As the night slowly started to come back to me, I remembered that as well as a headache, the alcohol had also given me a little confidence boost … believing I was fluent in Spanish, which I must add, I am not even close to! I had some lovely conversations in Spanish with random strangers.  Apparently I told everyone I had Paul Noble to thank for this! I’m expecting sales of his CDs to rocket as a result! #Paulnobleisthebest

I returned to the UK for 5 days at the beginning of July as I had a couple of business meetings arranged which handily coincided with my eldest son Henry’s invitation to the year 6 leavers’ party at his old school. Fortunately I didn’t find myself sobbing on the other mum’s shoulders but I did my fair share of that when I said  good-bye to the parents and children just before we moved to Ibiza.

I ran around like a nutter while I was in England, and had a drastic hair colour change. It actually looks browner in this photograph, and it’s already starting to tint back to my more natural colour which believe it or not is actually not far off the colour in the far left photograph! I’ll be happier when the sun kist hair look makes an appearance and there’s a few blond strikes showing through, but the ultra blonde colour had to go!

I’ve mentioned it before, but what I really, really miss in Ibiza is Waitrose, oh, and my mum’s roast dinner, which she did very kindly cook for me despite the heatwave.

I brought a suitcase full of Waitrose goodies home with me. This time, my case was packed out with gooseberries, Coconut Collaborative dairy-free yoghurt, organic peanut butter, gluten-free wraps and a few packs of Samphire amongst other things! Ibiza supermarkets are so behind and their quality of some foods leaves a lot to be desired. I seriously need to open a deli out here – stocked with pre-made CCwK goodies. #watchthisspace

I nearly didn’t make my flight back to Ibiza as my eldest son Henry was struck down with earache just as we were leaving. There is nothing worse then earache is there? So after much fretting and a late night dash to the emergency doctor we just made our ridiculously early flight! We were frazzled by the time we arrived back home but my collection of newly acquired Waitrose goodies kept me going!

I’m now off to collect the kids from a Summer club and get my half-hour language fix of Paul!

Have a lovely summer and mantente a salvo (stay safe)

Love
